A Quick Candlestick Makeover

I stumbled across these gorgeous candlesticks last month at my favorite pop-up shop in Charlotte. . . The Potato Sack.
{If you haven't been, you must find them on facebook HERE and get their next sale dates on your calendar ASAP!}

Though they were stunning on their own, I thought they'd make gorgeous lamps!
I didn't, however, just want to paint them...I wanted them to have that aged plaster look.
{See PREVIOUS POST for more details on the whole process}

For this project, I chose a BEHR color match of Sherwin-Williams'
Wool Skein.
{Make sure you go with a flat finish}

Mix the paint 50/50 with plaster .

Start Painting!

I intentionally left brush strokes and some clumps.
If you go overboard, these can always be sanded out later.

Next, I rubbed with steel wool.
This serves a dual purpose -
It smooths out some of the texture AND lends a slight gray tint to the paint, giving these candlesticks and even more aged appearance.
{In some cases, I even went down to the original wood}

Next came the wiring.
So here was my big mistake . . . I thought these were hollow.
After telling my husband it would be a quick and easy lamp - he sweetly informed me that they were, in fact, solid wood!
{Gosh, he's so patient with me}

Using a lamp kit from Home Depot, he was able to wire them in an hour or so.
And I think we finally found the PERFECT shades at the flea market last weekend:

{note to self- straighten the shade before snapping a pic}

Crooked or not. . . LOVING the new addition to our living room!
