Recently, Michael and I had the pleasure of being interviewed for a magazine.
{As soon as I'm allowed to tell you more about that little secret, I will...I promise!}
We were both so shocked and honored all at the same time. I still can't believe it really happened :)

While shooting our home, the editors asked for some tips for decorating on a budget. Although I do this every day, I'd never actually been asked to put all of my ideas down on paper.
I won't bore you with them all (plus I need to leave some suspense for the magazine) but here's just a few of my favorites
{and some beautiful inspiration pictures thrown in the mix as well.}

Because, truthfully, pictures are WAY more inspiring than my words could ever be!
1. The best piece of decorating advice came from my mom....Start fresh!
Take everything out of your home that doesn’t inspire you or tell a story. (less is usually more)
Then patiently wait for it to all come together. If you try to make it happen in a weekend, it won’t always be as meaningful.

2. Let your home tell a story and be a reflection of you.
Surround yourself with pieces you love, but don’t force it. It will all come together eventually, just be patient and wait for those pieces to POP when you’re strolling through thrift stores, flea markets, or Craigslist.
3. Shop catalogs for inspiration not necessarily decoration. Usually, you can find a way to get the look for {much} less!

4. Let the beauty of nature do the work for you.
Driftwood, fresh spring branches, ferns, evergreen, even old tree stumps - these are, in my opinion, the most beautiful and inexpensive way to bring beauty and freshness into your home.
5. Visit an estate sale on the last day. You’ll be sure to find lots of great deals.
6. Fake an expensive renovation....instead of completely gutting your kitchen, take off those old doors. You'll be amazed!
7. Walk through stores with fresh eyes? Do you see a basket that you love that could be used as a light fixture? What about an old barn door that could easily become a desk? These are the pieces that will make your home unique.
8. Let meaningful treasures become your "expensive" artwork. For example, I framed the original blue-prints and sketches of our house. They now decorate the walls of our office.
Maps work well too!
9. Let your home exude warmth and hospitality. When you spend too much on furnishings, pillows, linens you become scared to let your home be lived in. Don’t let any piece of furniture in your home become more important than the way people feel when they walk through the doors.
10. Find out what YOU love- not what the designers say is trendy! Those things will come and go as the seasons change - find out what inspires you and makes you excited to come home.
I'd love to hear some of your best budget decorating tips!
I feel SURE there are some genius ideas that I have yet to think about ....
